How 6-Letter Wordle Differs from the Classic Game

Six letters stretch the puzzle in the opposite direction from the quick 4-letter game. The real difficulty is vocabulary uncertainty: you cannot shortlist candidates in your head the way you can with short words.

In exchange, every guess works harder for you. Six tiles of feedback per row mean a well-built opener can confirm or eliminate several letters at once. Common letters include E, R, A, I, T and N - words rich in them make ruthless openers.

Structure becomes your best clue. Six-letter English words are full of familiar parts - endings like -ER, -ED and -ION, beginnings like RE- and UN-. Once a few tiles turn green, think in word parts, not single letters.

Best Starting Words for 6-Letter Wordle
With six slots you want openers that pack in frequent letters without repeats. All of these are valid words in this game:
  • SATIRE - tests the letters S, A, T, I, R, E.
  • RENTAL - brings N and L into play, and a very common word shape for British English.
  • ORIENT - brings in O and doubles down on the frequent consonants, ideal when your first row comes back quiet.

These words are examples, not a fixed sequence. Choose your next guess using the revealed letters and their positions.

Strategy Tips for 6 Letters
  • Start with a word containing different common letters. Choose your second guess using the clues you receive, especially in hard mode.
  • In our Wordle, the hidden word never repeats a letter. You can still use words with double letters in your own guesses - just not in the answer.
  • Consider familiar endings, but check them against the colour clues. Only a green tile confirms the correct position.
  • Track where yellows have already been: with six positions it is easy to re-test a yellow letter in a spot you have already ruled out.

6-Letter Wordle FAQ

Six letters can be more challenging because you need to consider longer words and more positions. In return, each guess gives you six tiles of feedback.

Six, the same as classic Wordle - the grid is six tiles wide, so guesses and word length match one to one. Green, yellow and grey feedback works exactly as in the 5-letter game.

A fresh word appears every day at midnight UTC. The 6-letter mode keeps its own daily streak and statistics, separate from the classic game.

There is no archive of past daily words. For extra rounds, switch modes in the game menu: the hourly word brings a new puzzle every hour and unlimited mode lets you practise endlessly.

When six letters start to feel like a marathon, Wordle 4 trims the word down to four letters for a quick palate-cleanser round.

Fans of longer words should also give the Hive spelling bee a go - seven letters there can spell answers well beyond six characters.
