How 6-Letter Wordle Differs from the Classic Game

Six letters stretch the puzzle in the opposite direction from the quick 4-letter game. The answer pool here holds nearly 1,000 British English words, including plenty you rarely say out loud. The real difficulty is vocabulary uncertainty: you cannot shortlist candidates in your head the way you can with short words.

In exchange, every guess works harder for you. Six tiles of feedback per row mean a well-built opener can confirm or eliminate a third of the alphabet at once. The most common letters in our 6-letter pool are E, R, A, I, T and N - words rich in them make ruthless openers.

Structure becomes your best clue. Six-letter English words are full of familiar parts - endings like -ER, -ED and -ION, beginnings like RE- and UN- - and double letters appear far more often than in short words. Once a few tiles turn green, think in word parts, not single letters.

Best Starting Words for 6-Letter Wordle
With six slots you want openers that pack in frequent letters without repeats. All of these are valid words in this game:
  • SATIRE - six distinct letters covering five of the seven most frequent in the 6-letter pool; a superb information harvest.
  • RENTAL - the same power letters with N and L in play, and a very common word shape for British English.
  • ORIENT - brings in O and doubles down on the frequent consonants, ideal when your first row comes back quiet.

After your opener, guess a second word using six completely new letters - two rows can test twelve letters and crack most puzzles by row three.

Strategy Tips for 6 Letters
  • Commit to a fixed pair of openers that together cover ten or more distinct letters, and play them on autopilot.
  • Respect double letters: if the board refuses to make sense, try repeating a confirmed letter - six-letter words double up far more often than five-letter ones.
  • Lean on suffixes: a yellow E and R late in the word very often signals an -ER ending, which instantly fixes two positions.
  • Track where yellows have already been: with six positions it is easy to re-test a yellow letter in a spot you have already ruled out.
